Senior Media Relations Manager

A Unique opportunity to join one of the leading financial powerhouses across the UK and work within their Media Relations Central Office. With growth mapping fully in place and plans to invest over the next 5 years this is a really exciting time to join one of our most loved banks. With offices based in Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds and London and remote working on offer this role will appeal to a wider scope of candidates across the country.

You will ensure the delivery of day-to-day media activity in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment supporting key business areas, including significant projects working with stakeholders and promoting the Group's reputation to external audiences

The Experience we need

  • Exemplary media relations skills including excellent oral and written skills, proactive and reactive media management and the ability to plan, oversee and manage media strategies.
  • A strong track record in managing corporate media relations and significant group level announcements will be a distinct advantage .
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively; be a strong team player and to work closely with colleagues from multiple teams.
  • Experience of handling national and regional media enquiries and the ability to give expert media guidance across the breadth of the group and to senior stakeholders on PR activity.
  • Experience of managing difficult and sensitive issues, crisis management, special situations projects.
  • Experience and good knowledge of digital and social media channels and their use alongside media relations to deliver impact, influence and campaign results.
  • Appreciation and experience of the importance of purpose for organisations
  • Proven network of strong relationships with journalists, editors and commentators.
  • Commitment to develop and deepen relationships with national and regional media contacts to enhance and protect the Group's reputation.
  • Inquisitive nature with a willingness to attend, represent and act as an advocate for the Group at external events where journalists are present.

The Role

  • Providing expert professional advice and guidance to senior stakeholders on media and PR-related issues
  • Managing corporate media relations and significant group-level announcements
  • Strong contacts with relevant senior editors and correspondents in banking and financial services across national, regional and online media
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with a range of journalists and developing a good understanding of the factors shaping their thinking; using this knowledge and intelligence in a strategic and tactical way and to protect and enhance reputation.
  • Anticipating both opportunities and issues and providing guidance on the appropriate positioning for the Group and divisions.
  • Planning and big-picture vision, combined with use of data analysis that maintains a consistent drumbeat of news for the Group and its brands to deliver impactful and highly targeted coverage and messages; maintain share of coverage relative to peers and maintain brand awareness.
  • Building and implementing thorough media plans (integrated with wider comms and digital and social media channels) to support strategic announcements
  • Supporting the coaching and training of spokespeople, including identifying and capitalising on opportunities; creating engagement plans and initiatives
  • Supporting the out-of-hours process, including assisting colleagues with reactive media queries, and with support for media coverage cuts delivery and training.
